ABOUT THIS PROGRAM
Lessons from Ground Zero: Emergency Action Plan was developed to provide
an initial
overview of the many considerations underlying the creation and implementation
of an
Emergency Action Plan (EAP). Using specific aspects of the World Trade
Center recovery
and cleanup efforts, Lessons from Ground Zero: Emergency Action Plan explores
the risks of
work on such sites, and the ways in which a properly developed Emergency
Action Plan
can provide some measure of protection from those risks. The video makes
extensive use
of interviews with actual workers and supervisors from the recovery and
cleanup teams,
and their commentary provides a special clarity to the discussions of
the challenges facing
any emergency action team.
The video is designed to heighten the awareness of two specific audiences.
For
supervisors and others on the EAP development team who are involved in
the creation,
implementation or maintenance of an Emergency Action Plan, the video illustrates
practical considerations which need to be taken into account if an EAP
is to achieve
maximum effectiveness. For the worker who might find himself on an emergency
action
team, the video demonstrates in graphic, real-life fashion the importance
of a sound EAP,
and the life-saving benefits to all who take such a plan seriously and
follow its directions.
For both audiences, the video provides many examples of the sorts of hazards
which might
be encountered on such a site, with the idea that awareness provides the
first layer of
protection for all involved. This leader's guide will help you train either
audience.
The video is twenty-nine minutes long and designed with bumpers throughout
which allow
you to stop the tape along the way to discuss content in greater detail.
This guide suggests
potential discussion points, but you may choose to select only points
which you believe are
most closely related to your workplace, or you may choose to design your
own.
Before scheduling your training session,we recommend that you read this
guide and view
the accompanying video so that you can determine how you would like to
structure your
training session. A few minutes of simple preparation can make a session
much smoother.
For instance, in addition to the review and selection of discussion points,
you may decide
to make the video one part of a larger session in which you also include
such things as
