This series features Dr. Bernhard E. Keiser, D.Sc., E.E., who is a consulting engineer in telecommunications and has worked in the early development of several domestic satellite systems. He holds four U.S. patents in the fields of satellite systems, voice signal bandwidth compression and expansion using time-domain principles. He is a fellow of the IEEE, the Washington Academy of Sciences

This program describes the coaxial cable technology used for transmitting large numbers of voice channels across country using frequency-division multiplexing (FDM). It covers the extension of this technology to digital cable systems and the millimeter-waveguide system, which is capable of cross-country two-way transmission of 59 channels at 274 Mb/s each. The presentation concludes with a discussion of the future uses of wideband communication systems.
